Is the proposal still alive ...?

All of us write a poem or at least feel like writing a few lines at some phase of our life. Especially when in love! Or the voice of a broken heart! I too wrote one. (What made me write? You mean - love or broken heart? Well both!!)

Here we go .....

It was 22nd Feb , 2002. I went to attend my friend's wedding to Shrirampur, Ahmednagar district. I met a beautiful girl over there. One of my close friends knew her family. I enquired about the girl, about her family. And if she is engaged? (so fast …?) And the information went in my favor. She was bride’s cousin. My friends sister-in-law. It was a day long stay. And I had enough time to know about the girl and her family. On my way back to Pune, I travelled in a truck. It was cold and windy night. The truck driver’s cabin had usual zigzag and colorful LED lighting. And the cassette player was on. It was playing 2001 hits from Dil Chahta Hai. And the song 'Jaane Kyon Log Pyaar Karate Hai'. Perfect !! I took a deep breath and confirmed to myself. Yes - I like that girl. By the time I reached Pune, I had made up my mind, I am going to propose this girl.
A few days later, I called my friends wife. I told her the complete story. She was pleasantly surprised. As she knew me - I was quiet and sincere. And hence the surprise. Anyway, she took it further. She spoke to the girl and her family. The girl agreed to meet. And we met for the first time. Awesome feeling! We met in Darshan hotel at Prabhat road. We had coffee and discussed about our career, future plans and our family background. Even though graduate in Instrumentation engineer, hit by the Y2K recession, I didn’t have good job. The girl wasn’t impressed. In her language 'It didn't click'. (I still don’t understand - How it clicks? And even if it clicks - Is that genuine? ). I tried my best but no luck. My love story ended before it could start. End of world for me.
I accepted and started my life all over again. But it broke my heart.

On to the second half ......

Months passed by. My parents were getting marriage proposals for me. But I was determined to wait until that girl was married. During that period, I never met the girl nor I discussed with my friend and his wife (the mediator) about it. I also avoided functions where that girl could come and we are face to face again. Complete cut off!

Ten months passed. It was January 1st, 2003. My cell phone rang. It was the same friend on the line. He said, "Her parents wants to know. Is the proposal still alive?" I was angry. And fulfilled too. My friend said – “The ball is in your court now!”.

We just celebrated our 6th marriage anniversary and life is fun. I later knew that it was my mother-in-law who made the girl understand that she would never get better husband than me. Thanks to her! And my wife has appreciated her mother's decision many times. My wife is a dentist. I always tell her that one should never underestimate an engineer.

Retake - Language war reaches Maharashtra assembly !!

We all know what happened in the Maharashtra assembly on November 9, 2009 over taking oath in regional language. Lot has been shown, written, discussed and argued since then. While the atmosphere was hot, I came across TATA’s successor news (Tata's successor may be an expatriate!). I thought the news can help us understand the whole trend and conclude the discussion.

The world is coming closer and putting practical limitations on what we like and want. We all love our state and mother tongue. Love and respect from others will come from our own realization, sincere efforts and achievements in our own field. Most importantly – by uniting and helping selflessly to each other to grow and establish. We will be thrown out of the competition if we follow way of violence and create enemies within.

Next 50 years for Congress?

I am not a congress man. I do not favor congress party nor I dislike BJP and allies. But congress is the party that has managed to do it for years and will manage to do it for next 50 years. You decide if this dominance is due to the ability of congress or inability of other political parties. Please have a look at the next generation congress men. They do not belong to any specific state, caste, origin or class of the society. They are all well qualified, well spoken and well behaved. Have a look at their profile and you will understand how strong their roots (social and political) are. Just try and get the list of next generation leaders from other parties and you will understand why I said next 50 years for congress.

There may be 5 years of picnic for other parties every 10-15 years but the final destination will be congress ......

What is wrong with BJP?

सर्वात महत्वाचे आहे - स्ट्रॉंग फाउंडेशन, स्ट्रॉंग बेस, मजबूत पाया. जेवढा पाया मजबूत तेवढी मोठी इमारत त्यावर उभी राहील आणि टिकेलही. Tall buildings need strong foundation! पाया कच्चा असेल आणि भलीमोठी इमारत बांधली किवा बांधण्याचा आव आणला तरी ती इमारत टिकणार नाहीच. महाराष्ट्रा काय, भारत काय - अनेक जाती धर्माणी बनलेला देश आहे. त्यात गरीब आहेत, श्रीमंत आहेत, आपल्यासारखे IT वाले आहेत. त्यामुळे ह्या सर्व घटकातील सामान्य माणसाला (common man) सोबत घेऊन जाणारा पक्षच मोठा होईल आणि टिकेलही.

पण मित्रहो, सगळ्यात महत्वाचे काय आहे, माहीत आहे? एखादा विशिष्ट घटकला पकडून न राहता, या सर्व घटकातील सामन्य माणसाला सोबत घेऊन पुढे जायचे झाल्यास खूप काळ जावा लागेल. किमान ७-८ वर्षे प्रामाणिकपणे common man च्या हितासाठी कुठल्याही राजकिय मतलाबाच्या आहारी न जाता प्रयत्‍न करावा लागेल. एवढा वेळ वाट पाहायची, हे तर केवळ अशक्य!! इथे तर, उद्या फार लांब आहे असे या पुढारी लोकाना वाटते. बीजेपीचा अनेक वर्षापूर्वी हाच प्रॉब्लेम होता. त्यांनी शॉर्टकट अवलंबला.

सत्ता मिळाली, बिल्डिंग उभी राहिली, पण टिकली नाही. कारण एकच - सर्व घटकातील सामान्य माणूस सोबत नाही.

आता बहुतेक, बीजेपीला या यक्षप्रश्नाची जाणीव झाली असावी?

पण जी भलीमोठी बिल्डिंग उभी आहे किवा तसा भास निर्माण झाला त्याचे काय करायचे? पायाच कच्चा राहिला त्याचे काय करायचे?
